This year, the members of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls are directing their energies to raise money for Camp Good Days and Special Times, a recreational facility on Keuka Lake for children and adults facing a terminal illness.

For many years, the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls have given their time and love to this wonderful cause. In 1987, these girls decided that they wanted to build a camp for all the children to find comfort in, build bonds in, and share laughs and smiles in. Their dream was completed in August of 1994 when the new Rainbow cabin was dedicated. Since then, many children have spent their summers there and have used the cabin in more ways than anyone could have imagined. To them, it is not just a structure made of wood; it is a place of peace, hope, faith, and love. To the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls it is a symbol of all the good things we can do for others.

This year the members of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls will be participating in many activities to raise money for Camp Good Days and Special Times and the Rainbow cabin. On September 11 in New York City, there was a boat ride held to raise money. In October, we held our "thon" month where we continued to rains money for Camp Good Days and Special Times. Later this year, each assembly will hold an additional thon, which could be anything from a car wash to a rock-a-thon to help our efforts further. There are also coffee can collections throughout the state for community members to help us reach our goals.

Camp Good Days and Special Times is a place where kids can be kids and forget about their troubles for awhile. It is a place of hope, faith and dreams. Some kids can call it their home away from home, where friends and family surround the. For one week, or maybe two, they are not sick, they are not sad, and they can be free of all the many stresses with having a terminal illness. This camp is a wonderful place and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is proud to be a part of it and we encourage everyone to join in this worthy cause to help us touch lives, even if it is one at a time.
