Hello everyone! Every year the Jr. Grand Executive Committee is in charge of choosing the state charity for the year. This year we have decided to raise money for the building of the University Children's Hospital in Syracuse, New York. University Hospital is part of Syracuse University and is well known for the quality of care that is given. When we heard about this project we jumped at the opportunity to let the youth in Rainbow help the youth of this state. We also wanted to be a part of something that will help families like the Henderson's. The website is www.upstate.edu/cnych, here you will be able to find out what the hospital will look like and what type of heath services will be offered.

Right now the Jr. Board is selling raffle tickets for a personal DVD player. These tickets will be sold through out the year and the drawing will be held April 1, 2006. You can buy tickets from the Junior Grand Executive Committee, Mom Gale Gould, or Mom Sandy Northrup. They are 1 ticket for $1.00 or 6 tickets for $5.00. We hope everyone will take advantage of this great offer.

We have also sent out the directions for a no-sew blanket that we hope every assembly and individuals will make so that at Grand Assembly we can give the blankets to the hospital for children to use and take home. You will need 1 1/2 yards of two complimentary materials, and that is ALL you need to complete this project! The directions are as follows:

1. Wash and dry the material before beginning.

2. Make sure the "good" side of both materials is facing out, and pin together.

3. Measure in a 4 inch square on each corner and cut that out.

4. Doing one side at a time, cut fringe 4 inches into the fabric, spaced 1 inch apart.

5.Once you have cut one side completely, tie the two fabric fringe pieces together using a double-knot.

6. Repeat on the other three sides.

7. Your quilt is now completed!

We are sure the blankets will help the children feel safe and comfortable during their treatment.

During Grand Assembly we also plan to hold a theme basket raffle. Each area will receive a basket and they will be in charge of filling the basket with items that go with the theme they are given. The way the raffle works is there is a paper bag in front of each basket and raffle tickets are sold. The person buying the raffle tickets chooses which basket they want a chance to win and puts their tickets in the bag.

Another fund-raiser we have planned is to sell shoe bags. These are bags that will hold your shoes and go in your gown bag so that the shoes do not get the gowns dirty. We have a sample bag all ready but the actual bags will be bigger.

As always October is "thon" month and we ask that each assembly comes up with a "thon" to raise money for the state charity. In the past we have done rake-a-thons, bowl-a-thons, rock-a-thons, walk-a-thons, and many others. Now do not get us wrong if you would like to hold a "thon" in a different month or if you want to do many different "thons" you are more then welcome, let’s just make sure everyone does at least one!

As we know our organization is one full of Charity and Service, but do not forget to have fun doing what we love to do. Remember to Have the Adventure of a Lifetime and help get this hospital built so children can start their road to recovery.
